Dr. Kapil Bhalla is director of the MCG Health Cancer Center. He is a Georgia Cancer Coalition (GCC) Distinguished Cancer Scholar, Georgia Research Alliance Eminent Scholar in Cancer and holds the Cecil F. Whitaker, Jr., MD, Chair in Cancer at MCG. He is on the faculty of MCG’s Institute of Molecular Medicine and Genetics, the School of Graduate Studies, and the Department of Medicine, hematology/oncology sections. His research interests include novel targeted therapeutics of leukemia, lymphoma and breast cancer.
Dr. Bhalla received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Delhi’s Maulana Azad Medical College in India, and completed a residency in internal medicine at St. Michael’s Medical Center in Newark, N.J, and a fellowship in hematology and oncology at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology and Medical Oncology. He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Hematology, the American Federation of Clinical Research and the American Association for Cancer Research. Dr. Bhalla is also a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology’s Scientific Program Committee on Developmental Therapeutics and chairs the Neoplasia Committee of the American Society of Hematology. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including the American Cancer Society’s Career Development Award and the Leukemia Society of America’s Fellow and Scholar Award.
Dr. Bhalla is a former member of the National Institutes of Health’s Experimental Therapeutics Study Section and has chaired the Developmental Therapeutics Study Section since 2003. He is the author of more than 150 scholarly articles on cancer research and clinical trials; serves as associate editor of Cancer Research
and is a member of the editorial board of Molecular Cancer Therapeutics, Clinical Cancer Research, Cancer Biology and Therapy and Cell Cycle.
