Developing Vaccines in Georgia

The Atlanta Business Chronicle reports, Georgia as leading in vaccine development. Currently Atlanta is home to a variety of researchers, economic developers, drug manufacturers, and institutions studying new vaccines. The Georgia Research Alliance is an organization working to keep Georgia on the forefront in the vaccine arena. Dendreon, a biotechnology company that works to develop therapeutics that may potentially improve cancer treatment options for patients, has chosen Atlanta as the site to build its manufacturing facility for production of its therapeutic vaccine. The vaccine set to be manufactured if PROVENGE, which is FDA-approved and stands to be the first autologous cellular immunotherapy for treatment of men’s prostate cancer. The therapy is designed to stimulate an immune response against prostate cancer. Dendreon along with other vaccine manufacturers, researchers and research institutes work continuously to keep Georgia at the cutting edge of vaccine development and manufacturing.
