DPH wins national communications award for colorectal cancer prevention

The Georgia Department of Public Health has recently been recognized by the National Public Health Information Coalition (NPHIC) and its Awards of Excellence for Public Health Communications. Along with a Gold Medal for “Get Georgia Moving” radio campaign to fight obesity, DPH also won a Silver Medal for its Colon Cancer Prevention radio spots. Listen to the spot here.

“We are so thankful to everyone who helped by providing the inspiration and focus for the messages, and the support and partnerships over the past few years that have enabled the ongoing colorectal cancer grant funding from CDC,” said Jean O'Connor, JD, DrPH, DPH’s Director of the Chronic Disease Prevention Section.

Presented by NPHIC and the Grady College of Journalism at the University of Georgia, awards were given in five major categories. Nearly 500 entries were submitted by public health organizations from all over the country.

“This is an outstanding accomplishment for Dr. O’Connor and her team since communications is such a critical component to preventing cancer,” said Georgia CORE President, Nancy Paris. “We are so grateful to partner with DPH in our education efforts.”
