Georgia Hospitals Working to Lower the Disparity Between Urban and Rural Georgians

12/16/2015

USA Today recently released a report noting that it's harder for rural Americans to get preventive screenings and quality treatment--especially for those struggling to get by.  Here in Georgia, a network consisting of the Lewis Cancer and Research Pavilion at St. Joseph's/Candler, Northside Hospital, Georgia CORE, the Harbin Clinic, John B. Amos Cancer Center, Navicent Health and Northeast Georgia have been working hard in its second year of a NCI funded grant to ensure that all Georgians have access to quality cancer care.  Our accruals in Year One (August 2014 through July 2015) were Rural: 19 (13%), Non-Rural: 126 (87%).  So far, in Year Two (August 2015 through October 2015) they have risen to Rural: 12 (20%), Non-Rural: 47 (80%).  While we still have further to go, we are working through our 41 different locations throughout the state to reach all Georgians.
