Georgia NCORP Gets National Recognition

10/01/2018, Georgia CORE

The National Cancer Institute Community Oncology Research Program Platinum Certificate of Excellence was awarded to Georgia NCORP for exceptional achievement in patient enrollments in treatment and cancer control trials from August 2017 to June 2018. The award was presented at the 2018 annual meeting of the NCI NCORP grantees in September, where the team from St. Joseph's/Candler led by Howard Zaren also was recognized as one of the top four accruers for cancer control studies.

At the fall meeting of SWOG -- an NCI supported organization that conducts clinical trials in adult cancers, Northside Hospital was recognized for its LungMap screening and the highest accrual from one site at 25 patients. Additionally, Stephanie J. Smith, RN, MSN, OCN, Clinical Special Services Manager and Georgia NCORP CCDR Admin Lead at the Nancy N. and J.C. Lewis Cancer and Research Pavilion was asked to speak at the meeting. She shared the story of a patient who has been in the S1400I trial for nearly two years, as well as the fact that Georgia NCORP has enrolled 50 patients to the trial with about half enrolling to a sub-study.

Great successes are happening in GA NCORP!
