6:30 PM - 9:30 PM

Blackburn Park (near the Blackburn Pavilion)

Atlanta, GA 30319
Dekalb

Food trucks, friends and a “sunset stroll” – all to raise awareness of cancer – are planned for June 12 at Blackburn Park in Brookhaven. The Northside Hospital Cancer Institute invites the community to raise awareness of sarcoma and honor patients during a leisurely sunset stroll through the park. Registration begins at 6:30 p.m.; the stroll at 7 p.m. This will mark the seventh-year that the Sarcoma Awareness Sunset Stroll has taken place. This year’s event will be held at Blackburn Park (near the Blackburn Pavilion), 3493 Ashford Dunwoody Road, Brookhaven. The community is encouraged to arrive early to enjoy dinner from one of Blackburn Park’s food trucks, or bring their own picnic. Free parking will be available at Kroger, across the street. The event is free to participate; however, donations are welcome. All proceeds benefit education, treatment and support for patients at the Northside Hospital Cancer Institute’s Sarcoma Program. Sarcoma is a rare cancer that develops from connective tissues of the body such as bones, cartilage, fat, muscles, nerve tissue, fibrous tissues or blood vessels. It accounts for just one percent of cancers in adults. According to the American Cancer Society, there will be about 15,000 new cases of sarcoma in the U.S. this year. Many patients have never heard of the disease prior to diagnosis. This is a family, wheelchair, stroller and pet-friendly event. All registrants will receive a free T-shirt. In case of rain, the event will be moved to June 19.
